TIMEZONE GUIDE 2001

TIMEZONE MAGAZINE

Swisstel has managed to quietly create Chicago's number one hotel for service, ambience, location and value. I have stayed there for years, and I consider it my address when I go back home to Chicago. Although a large hotel with convention facilities, Swisstel never loses its small hotel ambience.

In a city boasting hundreds of quaint, little hotels, can one really pick a favorite? I think the answer is yes -- once you have visited Hotel Lutetia, my preferred Rive Gauche address. Everything at Lutetia speaks subtle elegance and style, not as a catch phrase, but as a joie de vivre.

Starwood's W chain has launched a not-so-quiet revolution in the hotel business with their trendy boutique hotels. I love the Ws. But my favorite W in New York is not the flagship on Lexington, but the lower profile W Tuscany on 39th, closer to Park than Lexington.
